Speaking In Tongues - A Necessity For Today

Speaking In Tongues. A necessity for today!

Dear Pentecostal Pastor,

Question: What is it that separates us from the rest of Christendom?

Answer: It is the gift of tongues. It is the God given ability to speak in the languages of men and angels. It is speaking in tongues which attracts such vicious accusations from professed followers of Jesus that we are possessed by demons and speak in tongues under the influence of Satan. It is that element of walking in the realm of Holy Spirit power that alienates us from mainstream Christendom. We are misunderstood and feared. We are the oddities of the Christian world and yet, ironically, we are the very chosen ones whom the Lord will use in these last days to bring His bride to her chosen destiny through manifestly preaching the word with signs following

So what is it about speaking in tongues that is so problematic?

It is the fact that people have to utilize “faith” to the maximum in order to participate in this beautiful gift. Faith is the problem with every aspect of our walk. Without it we cannot please God. Without it we cannot walk with God. Without it we cannot participate in the miraculous. It was no different in Jesus day. Jesus walked fully in faith. By faith He demonstrated how to walk with the Father. He worked miracles to attest the fact that He came from God. The hypocrites ascribed what Jesus did to the devil. The hypocrites did not work any of the miracles which Jesus did. Why should it be any different for us? Did not Jesus say that the servant is not above his master. Yes, they will say that we are from the devil. But the works will demonstrate God’s presence in our lives. And at the end of the day there are the facts to consider.

FACTS
Fact: Jesus said that we shall speak with new tongues.
Fact: Jesus said that this would be for us, our children, to all who are afar off and to as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Fact: we shall be hated of our own brethren.
Fact: we will be thought of in the same way Jesus was; i.e. accused of being demonized.
Fact: we shall be separated from those who have a form of godliness but deny the power thereof.
Fact: tongues did not abruptly cease at the close of the New Testament Canon.
Fact: Irenaeus and Tertullian, perhaps the greatest defenders of the faith in the early church spoke in tongues. This was around about a century after they were supposed to have ceased. Justin Martyr spoke about the prophetic gifts being active in his time. These were trusted and revered church leaders folks! Justin Martyr was a disciple Polycarp who was a disciple of the Apostle John (the last of the living apostles). Why were all of these saints unaware of tongues having abruptly ceased earlier? The answer is quite simple. They were not aware that tongues had ceased abruptly because it quite simply had not happened. Don’t let (would be) scholars rewrite history!

Facts are facts folks. There is not a single line of testimony from our Lord that indicates any limitation regarding the gifts of God. Considering that aforementioned facts is it not, therefore, reasonable to conclude that speaking in tongues is for today?

It is patently obvious that the Lord wanted the miraculous to accompany the preaching of the Gospel. It does not make the slightest bit of sense if the Lord limited the miraculous manifestations of His gifts to the first century disciples alone and then expected those following to rely upon the printed word alone!

All of the evidence points to God continuing to manifest His miraculous presence throughout history through the spiritual gifts and the ascension gifts. Jesus promises us the he will never leave us or forsake us. He also promises us that He is the same yesterday, and today and forever. Since He can neither lie nor change is it not reasonable that He will continue to do for us what He did for the first century disciples?

CONCLUSION

Speaking in tongues is as viable today as it was on the day of Pentecost. Dear Pentecostal Pastor please encourage your flock to stir up the gift that is within them. Encourage them to pray in tongues “more than you all” just as our beloved Apostle Paul did.

I believe that if this message was to go out world wide it would counter the growing tide of fear and terror that there is in the world. Fear is of the devil. Let us be speaking in tongues continually. I believe that the Holy Spirit is going to do a new refreshing work in the lives of all believers who embrace fully the Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
